Why Make Your Own Dog Biscuits at Home?

The main reason is that you know what ingredients are in the dog biscuits—making it easier for you to monitor what your pet is ingesting. Also, it’s a fun family activity.

Ingredients

• Whole Wheat Flour

Whole wheat flour, a key ingredient in these treats, is packed with nutrients for your furry friend, including fiber, protein, and antioxidants. While all-purpose flour can be used in a pinch, it doesn’t offer the same health benefits as its whole wheat counterpart.

• Eggs

Eggs are great for dogs by providing protein, fatty acids, and vitamins.

• Canned Pumpkin

When using canned pumpkin, be sure to choose pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. The latter can contain added ingredients like sugar, which isn’t suitable for dogs. This precaution ensures the safety of your pet’s treat.

• Peanut Butter

Use natural peanut butter. Check the ingredients and ensure the peanut butter doesn’t contain Xylitol because it can be harmful to dogs.

• Salt

While salt can enhance the flavor of the treats, it’s important to use it in moderation. This caution ensures that the treats are safe and healthy for your dog.

• Cinnamon

Cinnamon gives the treats a delicious flavor and can provide some great nutritional benefits (like antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and better heart health).

• Water

This step is optional. The water will keep the dog treats together and make it easier for you to work the dough.

Side Note:

These treats can be stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks. If you want them to last longer, you can freeze them for up to three months.

  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup canned pumpkin

Step 5
Roll the dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch.

Step 6

Cut into 1/2-inch pieces and transfer to a baking sheet. (optional: using a bone shaped cookie cutter)

Step 7
Bake in the preheated oven until dog treats are golden brown and crunchy, about 40 minutes. Let cool before serving to your dog.
